EPHESIANS 4:12, 16 & 29
Ephesians 4:12 (NIV)
to equip his people for works of service, so that the body of Christmay be built up
Ephesians 4:16 (NIV)
From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, growsand builds itself upin love,as each part does its work.
Ephesians 4:29 (NIV)
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others upaccording to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
Each of these three verses from Ephesians 4, talk about building up others. We are told that, as Christians, there is a requirement for us to build others up. That we are called to be a people who encourage others, disciple others, care for others and build others up so that they can live and thrive in life.
So often though, people tear others down in order to build themselves up. It is a very warped way to think that you have to treat someone as lesser than yourself in order to make you feel better about yourself.
To truly love someone else you have to want to see them live life to the full, you have to want to encourage and love them and you have to want them to experience all that God has for them.
Building each other up is central to how we are called to live our lives. Who can you build up today? Who needs an encouraging word?
